Japanese government finances purchase of equipment for Ukrainian hospitals

With the support of the Japanese government, 25 hospitals in Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Kirovohrad and Cherkasy oblasts will receive medical equipment in January.

The equipment is of various types, including portable ultrasound machines, defibrillators, syringe pumps, patient monitors, generators, etc. Equipment with a total cost of UAH 14 million has been purchased and is currently being delivered to hospitals.

“russia’s aggressive actions have led to serious destruction of medical infrastructure. Healthcare institutions need help to rebuild in order to provide quality medical care to our citizens. The partnership with Japan allows us to respond flexibly to new needs that arise in wartime. For example, in 2023, we supplied medicines to 5 hospitals in the south of Ukraine that were affected by russia’s blowing up of the Kakhovka reservoir dam. Currently, while collecting the equipment needs of medical institutions, we have received requests for portable, highly functional equipment. Ukraine, being at war, receives extraordinary support from the Japanese people in various areas, for which we are very grateful,” the charity organization said.

For the past year and a half, with the support of the Japanese organization Peace Winds Japan (PW), medicines have been supplied to Ukrainian hospitals. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 57 medical institutions in the most affected regions have received medicines worth about USD 1.5 million. The project supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is the next stage of cooperation and an unconditional step of solidarity with Ukrainian patients.

It is planned that the equipment will be fully transferred to hospitals in January 2024.
